Bowl Of Plenty

Our community is our heart.

Bowl of Plenty (BOP) is Likhon iThemba’s outreach project, reaching out to families and children in need within our surrounding communities.

Currently, every Thursday and Friday, we serve hot, nutritious meals to over 200 children in Madameni, thanks to the wonderful support of Food for Love for Africa and Nourish to Flourish.

For many of these little ones, this is their only meal of the day, yet they still greet us with big smiles and empty containers ready to be filled.

When we can, we also share sandwiches, toys and treats — small things that bring big joy.

But we simply cannot do this without YOU.

What We Do

Through BOP, we not only feed hungry tummies but also help families in crisis and support those in need of long-term care.

Some of the ways we’ve been able to make a difference include:

Providing regular hot meals to children and families in need
Raising funds for wheelchairs, school fees and therapy support
Supplying nappies, toiletries and household essentials
Setting up safe homes for families in crisis
Providing emergency relief during floods, fires and disasters

Our Impact

Over the years, BOP has been part of some truly life-changing work:

Established three Gogo Kitchens in Molweni and Madameni, where local grandmothers cook and serve meals to over 120 children daily
Supported creches in Umlazi, Tongaat and Inanda with food, toys and learning materials
Raised funds for wheelchairs, mattresses and therapy aids for children with special needs
Served meals to the homeless in Durban and distributed condoms to sex workers
Provided food, clothing, blankets and water during the KZN floods and looting
Built six wooden huts, giving 25 people a safe place to call home
Upgraded homes to allow for family reunification
Covered school and boarding fees for children with special needs

The children are encouraged to play, explore, and simply enjoy being children.
