Baby abandonments are on the rise in South Africa. VIKELA exists to give mothers a safe, compassionate alternative. Our Baby Saver in Madameni is a secure, wall-mounted safe where a baby can be placed anonymously and safely.
Once closed, the safe locks and alerts our Baby Saver management team on contact person on site. The baby receives immediate care, and the case is reported to SAPS and welfare.
Our goal is always prevention, offering counselling and support so mothers know they are never alone. And if surrender is the only option, we ensure it’s done safely.
